How to check recall status and terminate a recall of "optimized tape recall"

Question & Answer

Question

Spectrum Protect for Space Management has several recall modes.
This document describes useful information regarding the "optimized tape recall".

Answer

  • If you specify file_system_name at dsmrecall command, it means "optimized tape recall" mode is used.
        ex) dsmrecall  -detail  -filelist=file.list  /file_system_name
  • hsmdistributedrecall option is not applicable to the mode.
  • It is not possible to know from which machine a recall is invoked.
  • dsmq command displays information about recall, but the command is not applicable to the mode. No such command exists for the "optimized tape recall". Dsmrecall command output is the only way to know its progress.
  • To terminate a "optimized tape recall", press "ctrl+c" or issue "kill -sigterm <dsmrecall process ID>". You can kill the process at anytime. These methods are only applicable to the "optimized tape recall".  If the recall processing has started to work on a file (before the signal arrives), then the file is processed and it should be in premigrated state.
  • You may use "cancel session" also to terminate a "optimized tape recall", if you can find the recall session number.
  • "optimized tape recall" is performed by dsmrecall, not dsmrecalld.
