DataPower Throttler Port Exhaustion

Troubleshooting

Problem

DataPower can throw an error in the network category, critic log level:

Unable to accept new connection on port 1234 due to system port exhaustion
Unable to accept new connection on port 1234 due to application port exhaustion
Unable to accept new connection on port 1234 due to code 1fe

Symptom

  • Clients sending in new TCP SYN (new connection) to DataPower may receive immediate TCP RESET (Connection Close), or receive no reply at all.
  • Management and Service traffic is both equally impacted, there is no priority over one or the other.  WebGUI, SSH and other management interfaces likely become unavailable.  Alternatively you can try accessing the serial/VM console.
  • The device may suffer reloads due to throttler triggering in the case of port exhaustion and/or memory exhaustion.
