OA58842: VSAM EOV FAILURE IEC070I FOR RLS DATA SET ON ONE VOLUME

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When a VSAM ESDS RLS data set is defined with a single volume
  (candidate) and a large record size (27999 27999 in the reported
  case), an extend (EOV) request will fail with RC 8 RSN x'1C' and
  IEC070I 104-0460. After a single record is put in the data set
  successfully.
  
  However, the same extend works if two candidate
  volumes are specified (i.e. VOLUME(* *)).

Problem summary

  During EOV processing, VSAM RLS fails to obtain storage for a
  new extent due to passing an invalid parameter. The extend
  fails with MSGIEC0701 RC104 RSN0460, and the Put that caused the
  extend will fail with RC8 RSN0208001C.
  

Problem conclusion

• EOV processing has been corrected to properly obtain the new
  extent, avoiding the problem.
