DFHZC2405 return code 1000 DFHZSYX when trying to acquire terminal

Question & Answer

Question

Why do you get message DFHZC2405 with return code 1000 when trying to acquire a terminal in CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS)? You have a device defined to VTAM with a TCP/IP dotted decimal address. But CICS fails to acquire the device and returns message:

DFHZC2405 CSNE Node xxxxxxxx not activated. VTAM RETURN CODE 1000 ((6) Module name: DFHZSYX)

Cause

CICS issues a simulated logon (SIMLOGON) to VTAM in an attempt to acquire the device. But VTAM is unable to contact the device through the network. It drives the SYNAD exit (DFHZSYX) to tell CICS about the problem in the network.

VTAM does not cause the problem. VTAM only reports the problem to CICS.

CICS does not cause the problem. CICS only reports the problem by issuing the message DFHZC2405 with VTAM return code 1000.

Answer

Investigate why the network is unable to contact the device.
