Question & Answer

Question

These messages might be displayed when applying a VTAM PTF:

IEW2008I PROCESSING COMPLETED. RETURN CODE = 4.

IEW2646W ESD RMODE(24) CONFLICTS WITH USER-SPECIFIED RMODE(ANY) FOR SECTION CSHMDTAB.

IEW2646W ESD RMODE(24) CONFLICTS WITH USER-SPECIFIED RMODE(ANY) FOR SECTION LOGMODTB.

IEW2646W ESD RMODE(24) CONFLICTS WITH USER-SPECIFIED RMODE(ANY) FOR SECTION LU62DEFT.

IEW2646W ESD RMODE(24) CONFLICTS WITH USER-SPECIFIED RMODE(ANY) FOR SECTION LOGMDTBL.

IEW2646W ESD RMODE(24) CONFLICTS WITH USER-SPECIFIED RMODE(ANY) FOR SECTION LU62DEF.

Do these messages indicate a significant problem, or can they be safely ignored?

Answer

The IEW2646W messages can be ignored for these names: CSHMDTAB, LOGMODTB, LU62DEFT, LOGMODTBL, and LU62DEF.

The names called out in these messages are default VTAM logmode table entries defined within modules and are used when no logmode table exists. Because the tables are accessed and used only by modules that can reside in any mode, no problem exists and the messages can be ignored. VTAM Information APAR OW02830 refers to the general VTAM case, as well as some specific VTAM cases where the IEW2646W is received and can be ignored.
