IST607I VARY ACT FOR VTAMSG2 FAILED - INVALID NODE TYPE OR STATE

Question & Answer

Question

When activating a VTAM resource we have named VTAMSG2, we get the message IST607I VARY ACT FOR VTAMSG2 FAILED - INVALID NODE TYPE OR STATE.

How do we resolve this issue?

Answer

Starting in z/OS V1R12, VTAMSG2 is a new reserved name of an internal major node built by VTAM. As such, there should be no other use of the name VTAMSG2 in the VTAM definitions that are used by your system.

To resolve this problem, you need to modify your VTAM definitions so that all references to VTAMSG2 are changed to a non-reserved name.

For more information, see topic 6.1.16 SNA Services: Ensure VTAMSG2 in not used in your VTAMLST definitions in the z/OS V1R13.0 Migration book.
