Summary

With Hardware Management Console (HMC) Version Version 8.2.0 and higher HMC provides an easier method for data collection when isolating Live Partition Mobility (LPM) Problems.

** Data capture is only when there is failure with LPM. **

This process captures data from HMC doe initial debugging and depending on the problem, more data and
info would be required.

Objective

Capture First Failure Data Capture (FFDC) for Live Partition Mobility Failure (LPM)

Environment

Virtual IO Server, PowerVC, Hardware Mangement Console (HMC), NovaLink, AIX, IBMi, Linux

Steps

This is an automated process when it enabled through HMC using:
By default this is not enabled:
Run the following command to enable or disable the automatic collection of FFDC data:
migrdbg -o  e | d Copy
Where:
  • e is used to enable the automatic FFDC function. By default, the function is disabled.
  • d is used to disable the automatic FFDC function.
This generated on failure only, with files similar to lpmfdc-curr.tgz with following directories  and files.
Minimum directories included:  fdc1, ffdc2 ,  FDC_Contents
