The zsnap tool complements the snap command. It calls snap for all standard data gathering. This tool provides additional information gathering routines that extend IBMs ability to obtain information for improved customer service. zsnap was created and is supported by the technical support team. IBM recommends that you install zsnap before you call the AIX or PowerHA technical support center.
Benefits of zsnap
The zsnap tool provides
- A set of simple SMIT menus and an easy to use command line interface.
- Support for all snap flags, while introducing new, easy to remember categories, such as NIM, SAN, FS and CMDS that simplify the command line syntax.
- Packaging for accurate uploading to IBM support centers reduce delays in processing.
- Direct FTP uploading to the IBM location nearest you puts your materials into the hands of your IBM product specialist that much quicker.
- Improved disk space detection and improved error processing help to ensure more reliable data gathering. zsnap even avoids including the system dump unless specifically requested.
- Improved parallel execution and signal handling help speed up processing. While zsnap captures more data, you should find that it takes less time than snap to complete.
