|  IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS  9.3 ( IWSZ ) goes out of support August 31, 2023.  What migration paths are available for IWSZ | | 9.3 and earlier releases (if a support extension is in place for example) ?

Cause

EQQICTOP load module  (SEQQSAMP member EQQICNVS )

Answer

| From IWSZ 9.3 you can migrate to zWS 9.5 or 10.1.  10.1 would be recommended as this would save another migration later on.
| From TWSZ 9.2 you can migrate to IWSz 9.3 or zWS  9.5 assuming that you have 9.3 or 9.5 installed or can get this release
| | installed.  The migration from 9.2 to 9.5 may be easier as 9.2 requires fewer  PTFs to be installed than 9.3.  From 9.3 or 9.5 it
would then be possible to migrate to 10.1
| From TWSZ 9.1 you can migrate to  9.3 or 9.5 if you have these releases installed.  It would not make sense to migrate to 9.3
| however as 9.3 will soon be out of support; however it could be done.  The zWS release 9.5 cannot be ordered from SHOPZ as it is out of | | marketing, so a special order of 9.5 would be needed if you do not already have  9.5.
From TWSz 8.6 the possible migrations are to 9.1,  9.2,  or 9.3  using a single invocation of the EQQICTOP load module.
| To migrate from 8.6 to 9.5 or 10.1  requires a TWO-STEP migration (see attached JCL example) which requires that an ADDITIONAL
release of TWSz is installed for the intermediary step.
So the first migration step could be 8.6 to 9.1   and the second migration step would be from 9.1 to 9.5  (or you could
use either 9.2 or 9.3 in place of 9.1 ).  It is not necessary to actually RUN the intermediary release; it is just used so that
the migration load module EQQICTOP works correctly.
||  From 8.5.1 the possible "one step" migrations are to  8.6, 9.1, 9,2 or  9.3.  To migrate to 9.5 or 10.1 requires a "two step"
migration similar to the 8.6 to 9.5 migration described above.
| From 8.5.0  it is only possible to migrate to 8.5.1, 8.6 or 9.1  in a "one step" migration and then a second step
|| would be required to get to 9.3 or 9.5 and a third step would be needed to migrate to 10.1.
|From either 8.2 or 8.3 the only "one step" migration path is to 8.5.0,  8.5.1 or 8.6  from there, see the discussion above
| for the other releases. To get to 10.1 would require a three-step migration | |
| For example to get from 8.3 to 9.5 or 10.1  would  require a THREE STEP migration --   8.3 to 8.6,  then 8.6  to either 9.1, 9.2  or
| 9.3,  and then from the 9.1, 9.2 or 9.3  release to 9.5 or 10.1 .
If you are contemplating a complex migration you may want to consider contracting with the services group to assist or
perform the migration for you.
