General information regarding the Engineering Lifecycle Management (ELM) interim Fix lifecycle

Abstract

There are general guidelines regarding the content and cadence of ELM interim fixes, which are helpful to understand.

Content

1) ELM interim fixes are generally scheduled for delivery every 6- 10 weeks. Older product versions release interim fixes release less frequently.
 
  • Week 1: Development and Known Issue validation
  • Week 2: Development and Known Issue validation
  • Week 3-5: ....
  • Week 6: Regression testing only
  • Week 7: Final, publish​
2) interim Fixes include the following content:
 
  • High Severity Known Issues
  • Security fixes (PSIRT)
3) The governance policy for interim Fixes limits fixes to those fixes that match certain criteria.
 
  • No model or DB schema changes
  • No API breaking changes
  • No changes that break migration or n-1 compatibility
  • No feature work or enhancements
  • No version number changes
  • No system requirements change
  • Fixes must be available in the next GA release
  • No instrumental changes for debugging purpose

6) The ELM server patch zipfile might contain fixes for either a subset or all of these applications:
 
  • Jazz Team Server
  • Engineering Workflow Management
  • Engineering Test Management
  • Rational DOORS Next Generation
  • Jazz Reporting Service
  • Lifecycle Query Engine
  • Data Collection Component
  • IBM Engineering Systems Design Rhapsody® - Model Manager
  • IBM Engineering Lifecycle Optimization - Publishing

7) Before you install the server patch file, verify that no other test fixes, or debug patches are installed. If other test fixes or debug patches are installed, they might be removed or conflict with the server patch. Contact IBM Software Support with any questions.

8) For a distributed ELM deployment, complete the same steps to install the interim Fix on each server.
