Abstract
This document explains how to provide support for multiple scanners in FileNet Capture.
Content
Multiple scanner support requires that each scanner must be attached to a different workstation. You cannot switch between different scanner models on the same workstation. If you want to use more than one scanner with a batch or settings collection, each scanner must be on a different workstation.
When you first create a batch or settings collection, Capture saves the scanner guidelines automatically. After that, any changes to the scanner settings will be made to the scanner guidelines. You can manage how the scanner guidelines are saved by specifying the Options for Initial Settings. Capture associates a set of scanner settings with the batch or settings collection. These settings are based on the options for a specific scanner and the settings you configured from the available options. These settings are also called the scanner guidelines.
When you switch to a new scanner for scanning into an existing batch, Capture automatically tries to reconcile the settings in the original scanner guidelines with the options available on the new scanner. If there are no mismatches, then the new scanner simply replaces the old, depending on what options you selected in the Options for Initial Settings. If one or more options are not available on the new scanner, then a validation report displays the incompatibilities and whether or not Capture was able to reconcile the differences.
For example, if the original setting is out of range for the new scanner, Capture uses the new scanner's default. If a feature is not available for the new scanner, the old setting is ignored. A special case is the scan area. If the scan area is not compatible, Capture uses the maximum length and/or width available on the new scanner.
