Prerequisites and co-requisites
General description
This is an interim fix for the OS Monitoring Agents provided with the IBM Cloud Application Performance Management version 8.1.4.0 family of products. It upgrades the OS Monitoring Agents to version 06.35.14.01
Platforms and prerequisites
The OS Monitoring Agents is supported on the platforms documented here.
The interim fix for the OS Monitoring Agents is intended to be applied to the OS Monitoring Agents which is provided with:
IBM Cloud Application Performance Management Base, Version 8.1.4.0
IBM Cloud Application Performance Management Advanced, Version 8.1.4.0
Known issues
- Symptom: UX agent SDA file (kux_sda_6.3.5.1401.jar) may failed to upload to server. The following message can be seen on the UX agent log (
_ux_kuxagent_*.log)
(59D29475.0002-18:kraajson.cpp,563,"IRA_JSON_ExpandDataBuffer") Unable to object JSON object buffer storage - size 15231932
(59D29475.0003-18:kraajson.cpp,683,"IRA_JSON_FormatDataCollection") Exit: 0x7
(59D29475.0004-18:kraaomsg.cpp,952,"IRA_outputAgentMessage") *CA-INFO: Custom metadata file /opt/ibm/apm/agent/lfwain02/aix526/ux/support/kux_sda_6.3.5.1401.jar upload processing failed - Base64 encoding or JSON format error detected.
Workaround: Increase the data ulimit and restart the agent.
- Symptom: The
_ _fcp_daemon_logmonitoring_*.log may contains many messages "ERROR: tec_put_event failed, rc = -1". This occurred due to the agent trying to send EIF events even though there is no valid ServerLocation nor ServerPort had been set.
Workaround: None. These messages can be ignore.
Known limitations
None
Installation information
Prior to installation
The OS Monitoring Agent must be installed before applying the agent interim fix.
Installing
Installing the agent interim fix
- Download the patch bundle from Fix Central for each OS type where your agent is installed:
- If the agent is installed on AIX, download 8.1.4.0-IBM-APM-OS-AGENT-AIX-IF0001.tar
- If the agent is installed on Linux for Power Systems (Little Endian), download 8.1.4.0-IBM-APM-OS-AGENT-PLINUXLE-IF0001.tar
- If the agent is installed on Linux for System x, download 8.1.4.0-IBM-APM-OS-AGENT-XLINUX-IF0001.tar
- If the agent is installed on Linux for System z, download 8.1.4.0-IBM-APM-OS-AGENT-ZLINUX-IF0001.tar
- If the agent is installed on AIX, download 8.1.4.0-IBM-APM-OS-AGENT-AIX-IF0001.tar
- If you are installing the patch on AIX as a non-root user, you must clear unused shared libraries from the kernel and library memory before you install the patch by following these steps:
- Stop the agent
- Login as root, and run the slibclean command
- Login as the non-root user who installed the agent(s) and continue with the patch installation
- Stop the agent
- Unpack the patch bundle on each computer system where the agent is already installed by using the tar utility on Linux/AIX.
e.g.
tar -xf 8.1.4.0-IBM-APM-OS-AGENT-AIX-IF0001.tar
- Enter the created directory
- Run the apmpatch.sh/bat tool as the same user who installed the agent:
Linux/AIX:
./apmpatch.sh <APM-AGENT-HOME>
where the <APM-AGENT-HOME> value specifies the directory where the agent is installed. For Linux and AIX, it only needs to be provided if the agent is installed in a non-default directory.
Performing the necessary tasks after installation
A successful installation modifies the OS Monitoring Agents version to 06.35.14.01.
