OSA-Express Direct SNMP MIB module

This OSA-Express Enterprise specific MIB module (also called the Direct SNMP enhancement) reflects the OSA-Express MIB implemented for a specific OSA-Express Licensed Internal Code (LIC) level. The OSA-Express MIB is supported on Linux and z/OS.

For Linux, the OSA-Express direct SNMP subagent extends the capabilities of the ucd-snmp master agent (snmpd), which is required, and can retrieve SNMP management data from any OSA-Express feature defined as CHPID type OSD, running in QDIO mode. In order for the subagent to obtain management data, the OSA-Express feature must be active and must be defined in the appropriate Linux files, for example /etc/modules.conf and /etc/chandev.conf.

For z/OS, the Direct SNMP MIB is supported on z/OS 1.4 and higher for OSD features. Starting with z/OS 1.6 and higher, OSE features are also supported.

There are multiple levels of the OSA-Express MIB depending on the zSeries type and OSA-Express Licensed Internal Code level.

The base z800 and z900 MIB support includes:

• OSA-Express Channel and Performance tables for OSA-Express Gigabit Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Token Ring and ATM 155 features.
• OSA-Express Ethernet Port tables for OSA-Express Gigabit Ethernet and Fast Ethernet
• OSA-Express Token Ring port tables
• OSA-Express ATM LAN emulation tables for OSA-Express ATM 155 features running emulated Ethernet.

The z890 and z990 as well as all System z9 processor MIB support includes the above information with the addition of:

• OSA-Express Gigabit Ethernet and 1000Base-T Ethernet features
• z990 Logical Channel SubSystem (LCSS) support
• OSA-Express features (non-QDIO features supported with z/OS Version 1.6)
• OSA-Express2 features (available January 2005)

All System z9 systems LIC, both the z890 and z990 LIC and the z800 and z900 at LIC version 3.33 (or higher) include support for the Ethernet dot3StatsTable for interface statistics. The Ethernet dot3StatsTable is not part of the OSA-Express MIB.

The System z10 processor MIB support includes the above information with the addition of OSA-Express3 Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet.

The zEnterprise System 196 (z196) processor MIB support includes the above information with the addition of OSA-Express4S Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet.

Driver support levels

With the introduction of the IBM eServer zSeries 890 and zSeries 990, the OSA-Express Enterprise specific MIB has been updated to include new features and functions. Therefore there are now multiple levels of the MIB and associated MIBS.DATA file (used only on z/OS). Please select the MIB module that fits your specific machine and OSA-Express Licensed Internal Code (LIC) level.

For customers using OSA-Express7S, OSA-Express6S, OSA-Express5S, OSA-Express4S, or OSA-Express3 you should use the osaexp7.mib module.

For customers with any IBM System z9 systems, or with the IBM z990 or z890 at the May 2004 LIC or above, you should use the osa10gig.mib module.

For customers with IBM z990, z890, z900, or z800 at the following LIC levels, you should use the osa333c.mib module.

• z900 and z800 at minimum Driver 3G with OSA-Express LIC level 3.33
• z990 and z890 with OSA-Express LIC prior to May 2004

For customers with IBM z900 and z800 at the prior LIC levels, you should use the osa030c.mib module. This level of MIB module does not contain any of the z990 enhancements.

• z800 and z900 Driver 3G with OSA LIC level 3.0A at MCLs: J11204.007 and J11204.008

S/390 Parallel Enterprise Servers G5 and G6 are not supported.
