Moving Generic and Specific Synonym Files - Sterling Gentran:Server for UNIX

Product Documentation

Abstract

This article provides corrected procedures for moving generic and specific synonymn files. You should use these procedures for Gentran:Server for UNIX visual mapper.

Content

Gentran:Server uses generic and specific synonym files as it translates data.

  • The generic synonym files are named generic.dat and generic.idx.
  • Specific synonym files are named <mapname>.dat and <mapname>.idx, where <mapname> represents the name of the map using the files.

Both generic and specific synonym files are ISAM files. This means you can copy these files from one machine to another only if the machines have the same hardware platform and operating system.

Note: If the machines are the same, move the *.dat and *.idx files using a binary FTP routine.
