PROBLEM SUMMARY:

USERS AFFECTED:
All users of WebSphere Application Server V6.1 and V7.0 that have NLS characters in the Application Server install path and are trying to configure Common Event Infrastructure (CEI).

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
The ConfigEventServiceDerbyDB administrative task fails when the WebSphere Application Server install path has NLSs characters.

RECOMMENDATION:

The ConfigEventServiceDerbyDB administrative task fails when the WebSphere Aapplication Server install path has NLSs characters. $AdminTask configEventServiceDerbyDB fails with the following error when the WesbSphere Application Server install path contains NLS characters:

The problem is related to the character encoding, as CEI uses the standard cp1252 and for the machine with NLS characters cp 936 is used. When converting to 1252 the NLS characters are not recognized and this is causing the errors.

PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
The character encoding should remain cp936 in order for the nls characters to be recognized during CEI configuration.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fixpack 6.1.0.23 and 7.0.0.3.
