Abstract
Rollover of IBM® WebSphere® Application Serverlog files are occurring a few bytes beyond the defined max size.
Download Description
PK72269 resolves the following problem:
ERROR DESCRIPTION:?
PK66795 is supposed to allow for rollover even if the log files had been truncated with an external tool. The calculation is incorrect causing the rollover to occur a few bytes over the defined max size.
LOCAL FIX:?
PROBLEM SUMMARY:?
USERS AFFECTED:
All users of IBM® WebSphere® Application Server
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Rollover of WebSphere Application Server log files are occurring a few bytes beyond the defined max size.
RECOMMENDATION:
None
PK66795 is to allow for external tools to clear out the contents of Application Server log files and still allow for the log file rotation to occur. This fix introduces a problem where the rotation occurs too late causing the historical file size to go over the defined max size.
PROBLEM CONCLUSION:?
Internal counters had been used to track file size for performance reasons. For the same performance reasons, PK66795 will only allow truncation of the log file. If an external tool appends to the log file, the rotation may continue to be thrown off. The fix to APAR PK72269 will prevent the log rotation to occur beyond the max size, with the same conditions mentioned for PK66795.
PK66795 will not be supported for z/OS releases.
The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fixpack 6.0.2.31, 6.1.0.21, 7.0.0.1. Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for delivery information:
