Abstract
HIPER (Doc Number=6175): High Impact / Highly Pervasive APAR IJ08410 IJ08410 - Possible network outage with adapters using shientdd driver
Possible network outage can occur with adapters using the shientdd driver. The outage may be temporary or may require rebooting the LPAR to recover.
Find out if a system has any adapters using an affected driver with lsdev, for example:
# lsdev -F "name ddins" | grep shientdd
Note: on a VIOS, this must be run as root using 'oem_setup_env'.
We have seen this occur when changes occur on the physical network, such as switches restarting or cables becoming disconnected. When the driver is handling these events, it may incorrectly trigger a livedump of the adapter, causing the adapter to be reset and network traffic through the adapter to cease. This may be temporary or may require rebooting the LPAR to recover the adapter.

The table above describes which active levels are affected and where to obtain fixes.
Prior to the APAR Fix being available, an Interim Fix (iFix) is available for each affected level.
The available iFixes may only apply to the latest Service Packs. If a custom iFix is required please contact IBM Support.
The iFixes can be downloaded from the same location using ftp, http, or https.
