PK23888: CLEARDIFFMRG OUTPUTS GARBAGE WHEN COMPARING CERTAIN BINARY FILE TYPES INSTEAD OF ERRORING OUT

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Cleardiffmrg.exe does not recognize that certain file types
are binary. It incorrectly says that the file is identical
to its predecessor and the result displays garbage
    characters.

This is the case with Microsoft Office files (.doc, .xls,
.ppt). When I used .bmp and .ico files, cleardiffmrg issued
a message stating that it does not support the diff/merge of
    binary data--the expected behavior.
