Error description

  • FABADA1 gets ABEND U3503 AND MSGFABA3503E when SYSIN
TBLENTRY=10000000 is specified. Other values up to 99999999
    work as expected.
Error messages received are as follows:
FABA0110E - INVALID CONTROL CARD ENCOUNTERED
                 - INVALID SPECIFICATION FOR "TBLENTRY=" PARM
FABA3503E - CRITICAL CONTROL CARD ERROR ENCOUNTERED
    .
This is a forward fit APAR of FPB V1R2 APAR PK03589.

Local fix

  • Change value of TBLENTRY=10000000 to another value.

    *                      FABADA1 gets ABEND U3503 and            *

    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the maintenance for this APAR. *
    ****************************************************************
Forward Fit APAR of FPB V1R2 PK03589:
FABADA1 gets ABEND U3503 as follows:

     1) When TBLENTRY=xxxxx is specified in SYSIN, TBLENTRY= value
        is analyzed in module FABACKCC.

     2) 8th digits number of TBLENTRY value is dropped incorrectly
          at the binary conversion process.

     3) As the TBLENTRY value is treated as zero based on the
remaining 7 digits, it cause ABEND U3503.

Problem conclusion

  • The module FABACKCC has been modified as follows:

     1) Convert all TBLENTRY= value to binary correctly.

After this modification, a potential problem is revealed that,
when TBLENTRY= value is larger than 63161283, FABADA1 gets ABEND
S878 because calculated GETMAIN size of TBLENTRY overflowed and
    treated as minus value.

Therefore the module FABACKCC has also been modified as follows:

     2) When specified TBLENTRY= value is larger than 63161283,
        it is replaced to 63161283.

The IMS High Performance Fast Path Utilities for z/OS
User's Guide Volume 2: Fast Path Basic Tools Version 2 Release 1
(SC18-9238-00) should be changed as follows:

Part 2. DEDB Pointer Checker utility
Chapter 3. Using DEDB Pointer Checker utility
      Input
       FABADA1 SYSIN data set
         Record format

    TBLENTRY statement should be changed as follows;

This keyword parameter specifies the entry number of the SDEP
table (SDEPTBL). The table contains the data of the parent
root segment and the RBA data of the deleted SDEP segment.
When the TBLENTRY= keyword is specified with the SPTFALL
keyword, information about all SDEP RBAs between Logical Begin
and Logical End of the SDEP part are also kept in the table.
This keyword is ignored when the SDEP keyword is not
      specified.

The maximum value that can be specified for TBLENTRY is
    | 99999999; the minimum is 1. When specified value is greater
    | than 63161283, then FPB of HPFPU V2 replaces the specified
    | value to 63161283 internally. A value of zero is not allowed.
The default value is 10000. The length of an entry in the SDEP
table is 34 bytes. The table resides above 16M by using
GETMAIN. So if you need to define many entries for a deleted
SDEP check, increase your region size as well.
