Error description

  • When issuing a PUT to a remote site, FTP generates a SITE
    command. If the remote site is not a z/OS server, then the
    remote site may reject this command resulting in FTP
    detecting an error condition.
    In this case, the remote server did not have the SITE command

    implemented and returned:
    502 SITE command not implemented.

    When the STOR command is issued, normal data transfer will
    occur. At the end of data transmission over the data
    connection, instead of terminating the connection with a FIN,
    FTP terminates the data connection with a reset.

    The remote server should be interpreting this result as an
    incomplete (failed) data transfer and should respond over
    the control connection with an error reporting that the
    client has reset the connection with a message similar to the
    following:
    552 9950ad201001: Connection reset by peer.
    ADDITIONAL SYMPTOMS:
    The server reply may be:
    426 Connection closed; transfer aborted.
    426 Data connection: A connection with a remote socket was reset
    by that socket.

Local fix

  • Prior to the PUT command, enter the SENDSITE command to
    suppress generation of the SITE command.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When issuing a PUT to a remote site, *
    * FTP may generate a SITE command. If *
    * the remote site is not a z/OS server, *
    * then the SITE command fails resulting *
    * in the FTP client setting an error code *
    * that is not cleared before the command. *
    * This will result in next command *
    *                      failing.                                *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The error code in ftip->err was being cleared in multiple
    places. The client, EZAFTPSC, getReply() needs to be updated
    to always clear or set ftip->err correctly after each reply.
