APAR status

Error description

  • Rational Developer for System z - RDz - v9.5.0

The "Associating an included file with a complete program"
option for COBOL or PL/I editors works initially but after
"Clear the association" a NPE is thrown and user cannot edit the
applicable copybook.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Create a new local example COBOL project via
Menu File > New > Example then select Global Auto Mart COBOL
Sample
2) Try to edit the copybook GAM_COBOL\COPYBOOK\GAM0BCA.cpy
Editor opens and code is highlighted
3) close the editor
4) Right-click on GAM_COBOL\COPYBOOK\GAM0BCA.cpy and select
Associate Complete Program
associate it to GAM_COBOL\GAM0VDB\GAM0VDB.cbl
5) Try to edit the copybook GAM_COBOL\COPYBOOK\GAM0BCA.cpy
The editor opens but the code is not highlighted and the
following error is then in the .log file:

6) Right-clicking in the editor also does not work and produces
similar error:

7) Close the editor
8) clear the association
Right-click on GAM_COBOL\COPYBOOK\GAM0BCA.cpy and select
Associate Complete Program
Click on clear association
Click OK
9) Try to edit the copybook GAM_COBOL\COPYBOOK\GAM0BCA.cpy and
same error is raised once again and the editor is empty.

Local fix

  • There is no known workaround at this time

Problem summary

  • Null pointer exception in changeSession when session not found
