Setting Work Orders To Automatically Initiate

Some may have the need for Maximo to create a work order and have it automatically enter into a particular work flow process. The steps below will guide you through the process of setting this up as needed.

The following takes into account that the work flow process has already been set up as needed. Here are the steps to have the work order automatically enter a specified work flow process. Since a crontask will be needed, this will cover that set up as well.

1. We start by setting up the crontask as needed, we are working with the PmWogen Crontask:

We will need to set crontask name. Press the icon to the right of the Schedule field and chose the needed setting. List a user to run the crontask as, this user will need access to storerooms, labor and inventory to all sites the crontask will run against. Once that has been done place a check mark in the active box.

2. Next we set the location as to where the PmWogen crontask logs will write to, remember, this is a drive on the server and not the client machine.


Once all that has been done, save and reload the crontask using the select action menu.

With that done, the next step is to set up which site we want this to run against in the Organizations application. For each site that is listed, we will have to set the value for the fields shown below. If you would like to set the PM to generate with lead days, check the frequency box so that we can generate based on the frequency on the PM. make sure to check the automatic PM WO Generation box, as this is key when using the crontask.



3. Press OK, remain in Organization's application and select work flow options. Select the site we are working with, once done use the select value and choose the needed work flow process, press OK.



With the above in place, we will now be able to have the crontask run, generate the PM record into a work order and upon generation it will enter the listed work flow process. This will help control the amount of records generated as it will only generate based on the frequency set on the PM taking into account the days set for it to generate, if any.
