Error description

  • Scenario:
    ---------
    1. Open the provided CATPart
    2. Click "Projection"icon.
       The"Projection Definition"window comes out.
    3. Set "Nearest solution" Button at Off
    4. Support = Select "Extrude.1"
    .
    A sketch is Projection separately
     Sketch.2==(Line)
     Sketch.3==(Line+Circle)
     Sketch.4==(Point)
     Sketch.5==(Line+Point)
    .
    5. Projected -->Select "Sketch.2" through the tree
    6.  Click OK
        You get a projection
       Please carry out Sketch.3-5 similarly.
    ===> but the Sketch.5 cannot be chosen in specification
    tree.
    .
    Remarks:
    If sketch.* contains Point and other elements, we cannot
    select that sketch as projected element in tree.
    .
    We have a by-pass as below, but it is not same as "Project
    sketch.5" because this by-pass is "Project 2 elements of
    sketch".
    .
    -1) Two form(Vertex/Sketch.5 , Edge/Sketch.5) is chosen by
    "Geometry Area",pushing the "Ctrl" key, without choosing
    "Tree".
    -2) Click "Projection"icon.
    -3) Support = Sel "Extrude.1"
    -4) Sel "OK".
    .

Problem summary

  • INCIDENT DIAGNOSIS:
    IMPOSSIBLE TO PROJECT A SKETCH WHICH CONTAINS POINT AND OTHER
    ELEMENTS THROUGH THE TREE
    .

Problem conclusion

  • THIS MODIFICATION WILL BE INCLUDED IN CATIA DOCUMENTATION
    DELIVERED WITH CATIA VERSION 5 RELEASE 8

     DOCUMENTATION REFERENCE:
     MANUAL ===> CATIA Generative Shape Design User's Guide
     CHAPTER ===> Basic Tasks
     PAGE    ===> N/A

     MODIFICATION:
    In the "Basic Task" main page, a section has been added about
    the input elements for different commands and especially
    selecting sketches as inputs:
    .
    "When creating a geometric element, you often need to
     select other elements as inputs. When selecting a sketch
     as the input element, some restrictions apply, depending
     on the feature you are creating.

     You should avoid selecting self-intersecting sketches
     as well as sketches containing heterogeneous elements
     such as a curve and a point for example.

     However, the following elements accept sketches containing
     non connex elements (i.e. prensenting gaps between
     two consecutive elements) as inputs, provided they are of
     the same type (homogeneous, i.e. two curves, or two points):

     - Intersections
     - Projections
     - Extruded surfaces
     - Surfaces or revolution
     - Joined surfaces
     - Split surfaces
     - Trimmed surfaces
     - All transformations: translation, rotation, symmetry,
       scaling, affinity and axis to axis
     - Developed wires (Generative Shape Optimizer)"
    .
