Error description
Scenario: 1. Open 'New CATPart' file. --> Go in to 'Skecher' 2. Sel 'Profile' icon. 3. A line is pulled so that it may cross. 4. Sel Menu bar --> View --> Toolbars --> Tools 5. Sel 'Offset' icon. 6. Sel Toolsbar --> 'Point propagation' icon 7. Sel The drawn line (anything). --> However, offset is impossible.

THIS APAR IS CONSIDERED AS A SUGGESTION FOR IMPROVEMENT FOR CATIA. Offset in sketcher is impossible when input wire is self-intersected. This is today a restriction. Same restriction exists in GSD parallele curve. In a short term, we enhance the system to provide a good error message 'Unable to compute the offset, Non manifold input or the wire is self-intersecting'. Control self-intersection with Sketcher Analysis tool. JUSTIFICATION FOR DEVLOPMENT REQUEST: We can distinguish 3 different enhancement requests : 1/ manage in sketcher self-intersections resulting on the offseted wire (like in GSD parallele curve) This enhancement is candidate for V5R9 (when the input wire is not self-intersected) 2/ provide a solution when the input wire is self-intersected. This request seems to be a permanent restriction with our current technology. To be able to solve this problem, we need to enhance sketcher by adding offset constraint capability. Today, offset is only a 'procedural' operator, without associativity and without 'constraint' integration. The power-point presentation sent by customer is a solution based on several offset constraints applied on each curves of the input wire. 3/ constraint offset I think that this need is followed through the ERD process. Reference of enhancement request is CUST-BODY-005. Please contact IBM support or DS assignees. Remi Gonel, Part Design and Sketcher product manager.
