Error description

  • Worbench: Assembly Design
    Function: Offset Constraint

    Context:

In a product, insert two simple parts with one longer than the
other to allow for the input of a offset constraint at the
    assembly design level.
Both parts use the same origin and are relatively well
positioned to one another without any constraints (using either
    Snap or the compass).

    Scenario
Create an Offset constraint between the parallel faces of the
ends of each part , OK
    4) Update as needed.
    5) Double-click on the constraint to edit it.
    6) Press the "More" button
    7) Select the Opposite as opposed to the Same orientation.
    8) Update (if required).
    9) Note that the alignment is now askew.
    .
Result: An arbitrary rotation was used and the user must now
    reposition the components.
    .
Expected Result: A simple flip around the symmetry plane common
    to both parts' offset constraint.

  • INCIDENT DIAGNOSIS:
Part is not moved as expected by the user.
    .
     TECHNICAL EXPLAINATION
When user selects same or opposite orientation, part makes
a rotation of 180 degrees . Catia V5 sofware choses an
arbitrary axis to make this rotation. It is why the part
does not have a correct position.
    .
     CORRECT APPLICATION:
The part is under constrainted. To keep the correct position,
user should use a parallel constraint (angle constraint with
parallelism option activated) to avoid an arbitrary
    rotation.
     .
