STEP / SURFACE IS LOST AFTER STEP
    CONVERSION.

Problem conclusion

  • THIS PROBLEM IS PERMANENT
    RESTRICTION IN CATIA.
    .
    Incident Diagnosis:
Step face import fails in optimized mode
producing 463x4=1852 CATSurface (!) but is
    correctly imported with non-optimised mode
    producing 561x4=2244 CATSurface (!!!)
    .
    Restriction Explanation:
The C2 cutting provides a huge set of
    CATSurface in both modes
    (optim/nonoptim).
But, in optim mode, the CATPCurve
representation of the boundary of the face
present lots of holes between CATPCurves.
    See attached jpg file
    Detail_MF40781_KO_optim.jpg showing one,
AMONG DOZENS, of such incorrect gaps
    between edges and/or between CATPCurve
    inside an edge.
(N.B. : text are not meaninfull in this
    purpose. Only image is meaningfull).
On such poor quality models, we use some
heuristics in order to restore a probable
    connexity between CATPCurves.
Given the huge number of holes, these
heuristics fail when trying to discard
CATPCurve and/or retrieve which of them
    are good ones or not.
    .
The quality of CATPCurve is much more
better in NON-optimized mode than in
    optimized, which is quite strange.
    .
We tried to modify internal CATPCurve
    reconcialiation heuristics but without
success, even many (and costly) trials.
    .
    Low quality of CATPCurve representation
(STEP file given or laydowned) multiplied by
huge CATSurface number, also revealing a
low surfacic quality, seem to be responsible
    of the KO.
    .
    By-Pass:
    Use non-optimized mode instead of
    optimized mode.
    .
