Error description
ABSTRACT: DMUFIT: MEASURED VOLUME/AREA ON SAVED SWEPT VOLUME GIVES CLEARLY INCORRECT RESULTS. . SCENARIO: 1. Open sample.CATProduct. This consists of a part, with a cubic pad (10mm x 10mm) and a track which sweeps the part 100mm. 2. Change to DMUFitting workbench. 3. Select swept volume icon and track.1, Preview appears. 4. Click - Save - save as CGR. 5. Repeat for .model .wrl and .stl filetypes. 6. Create a new CATProduct. 7. Insert existing component and choose the 3 files (cgr, stl and wrl) created above ( For stl it is necessary to create a new part and import it via the Digitized Shape editor workbench). 8. Using measure item tool measure the volume/area of each. WRL: Volume=29000mm^3 Surface area=19000mm^2. CGR/STL/model: Area=19000mm^2. . RESULT: Result is incorrect. . EXPECTED RESULT: Expected answer is 10*10*100=10000mm^3 for the volume and 4* (10*100) + 2*(10*10) = 4200mm^2 for the surface area. .

Problem conclusion
THIS PROBLEM IS PERMANENT RESTRICTION IN CATIA. . Incident Diagnosis: Sweptvolume does not generate a manifold surface. The surface is not closed, nor minimal (you can often see inside triangles when you make a section of the swept volume). It's not in the specification for the swept volume, and it's not to be corrected. . Restriction Explanation: Not in the spec of the swept volume to have the minimal surface. It's sufficient and appropriate to calculate clash detection, but not for volume/area calculation. . By-Pass: You can use the wrapping command after a swept volume computation. It's meant to give a closed volume englobing the result. You can then calculate area and volume. .
