Problem
An IBM Spectrum Protect client running on Windows logs the ANS1468E error when trying to backup the ASR data. The scheduled backup is reported as failed.
Symptom
The client dsmerror.log shows the following errors :
ANS1228E Sending of object 'C:' failed
ANS1468E Backing up Automated System Recovery (ASR) files failed. No files will be backed up.
Diagnosing The Problem
A client trace shows the following errors :
<timestamp> [xxx] [yyy] : asrutil.cpp ( 282): AsrCreateStateFile \??\Volume{...}.
<timestamp> [xxx] [yyy] : asrutil.cpp ( 290): AsrCreateStateFile failed
<timestamp> [xxx] [yyy] : asrutil.cpp ( 868): processAsr(): asrCreateFiles() failed; rc=4654
The client uses the Windows API (AsrCreateStateFileW/AsrCreateStateFileA) to back up the Windows ASR data. The Windows API AsrCreateStateFile fails and the client logs the ANS1468E error.
Resolving The Problem
Review the Microsoft Windows Client Requirements document and make sure to apply all necessary Windows hotfixes. Contact Microsoft support to resolve the failure with the ASR create function.
