HD19722: IMPOSSIBLE TO FILL. MESHING ERROR NOT DETECTED

APAR status

  • Closed as user error.

Error description

  • Impossible to fill. Meshing error not detected
    1. Open .CATAnalysis
    2. Change workbench to Advanced Meshing Tools
    3. Select Tetrahedron Filler icon
    4. Select the following two elements from the tree
    as Mesh Parts
    5. Select Mesh button
    =>Error:The error message about Surface Mesh is
    displayed
    6. Press OK
    7. Double click Smart Surface Mesh.2 and change
    to the Mesh Edit mode
    (Make sure you should keep the Global Parameters
    window on the screen)
    8. Select Intersections/Interferences icon and set
    0.0001mm in the Clearance field
    9. Check Dynamic check and you can see the
    result 4
    interference elements are generated
    10. Check Autofocus and you can see the portion
    of the error
    11. Rotate the model and display the place where
    the error occurs.
    The place is the opposite side of the plane.
    12. Select Edit Mesh icon in the Edition Tool and
    press OK in the Warning window
    13. After moving mouse cursor around the place
    where the cursor s
    ymbol turn to eraser and the guide lines highlight
    like the following image, select the place.
    14. After modify the mesh, press OK in the Edit
    Mesh window
    15. Select Intersections/Interferences icon and
    check Dynamic check
    16. Confirm the result if the interference is 0 in the
    Interference Check window. Press Exit and close
    the Edit mode
    18. Repeat Step2 to 5
    19. Error again: Even though there is nothing
    interference mesh in the model, the error appears.

  • Incident Diagnosis
    Wrong operator used on surface mesh.
    Here, "Remove edge" creates a quad which is split
    int the two previous triangles by tet filler.
    Thus, the interference is still here for the filler.
    Explanation : if we follow your scenario. We create
    a quad and not a triangle. This is a inconsistency in
    tetrahedron filler and you get an error.
    So, even is checker doesn't show any error in
    mesh, the filler stops.
    Correct Application
    Use "Swap edge" instead.
    This operator transforms two triangles in two other
    triangles which are not in interference.
