Error description

  • GSD / EDGE FILLET : FILLET CANNOT BE CREATED
    AFTER CHANGE IN SPLIT
    .
This problem is reproducible in R14 latest level.
    .
When split is edited and other side is clicked twice,
update error occurs for Edge Fillet. User can not
make edge fillet with R=70mm (or after updating
model), but user can make the fillet after
    previewing with R=60mm.
    .

Problem conclusion

  • THIS PROBLEM IS PERMANENT RESTRICTION IN
    CATIA
    .
    Incident Diagnosis:
    PROBLEM1: Fillet.1 70mm impossible.
    PROBLEM2: Fillet.1 70mm possible after preview
    with 60mm.
    .
    Restriction Explanation:
    PROBLEM1:
Earlier CGM operators were allowed to extrapolate
input surfaces as much as needed. As a
consequence, the customer had a problem because
the model size increased due to huge surfaces,
many times extrapolated. We do not want to
extrapolate automatically the surfaces without user
interaction. See attached PPT. This is to avoid
growing of data size. The user has to explicitly
extrapolate. Closure of this problem is PRS.
    .
As the CATPart is read as it is, surfaces are widely
extrapolated because of previous operators. Thus
fillet can be created because it does not have to
extrapolate the surfaces, it can found on the
existing surface an area where the Sphere touches
    both surfaces.
    .
If split is modified, then CATPart is updated, all the
operators are run again and now do not
extrapolate the surfaces (this modification should
have been versioned but it was not in order to
allow the customers to reduce the model size of
their parts just by running an update). So when the
fillet is run, the surface are have not been
previously extrapolated and it does not find any
area where the sphere touches both surfaces, and
it fails. This is an unwanted side effect of an overall
    improvement regarding model size.
    .
PROBLEM2: It has been fixed since R13. Preview
with 60mm radius does not allow any more the
    70mm fillet to be OK.
    .
    By-Pass
    Extrapolate the surface.
    .
