Error description

  • Scenario :
    1. Start CATIA.
    2. Create New CATPart, and workbench is Free
    Style.
    3. Display a "Quick compass orientation" tool bar,
and keep this tool bar displaying.
    4. Click ■Flip to WU or ZX icon.
    >>A compass bases to ZX plane
5.Move 3D compass to "xy plane" with dragging a
    compass manipulation handle
    6. Click ■Flip to VW or YZ icon
    >>>The privileged plane actually is set to ZX
plane, although I expected that the privileged plane
was set to the YZ plane by ■Flip to VW or YZ
command. And it is a trouble.

  • Incident Diagnosis
Quick compass orientation is different when
dropped on one of main planes after swapping on
    YZ or XZ direction

    Correct Application
The behavior of the compass on perch is different
from its behavior in "Glider Mode", while dropped
on an element in the 3D.
If dropped on element (even one of mane planes)
the current main plane is a local plane and it's
defined depending on the element geometry.
If it's a curve, than the main plane will be a the
plane perpendicular to the curve tangent in the
point where the compass was dropped.
If it's a surface ( a plne is just a particular case of
a surface) - the main plane is a tangent to the
surface plane in the point where the compass was
    dropped.
In the current case the user first swapped the main
plane from XY to XZ , that dropped the compas on
to XY central plane ->so according to previous algo
the compass indicates main directions of a local
plane, which is positionned tangent to XY (same as
XY because it's a plane) ->the initially main plane
XZ become a local main plane. The further swaps
between main direction should be only
understanded as UVW swaps without a direct
relation to XYZ and especially with no costant
correlation between axis -X=U Y=V. In the 3D
position on an element the compass is a local axis
and should be viewed as is.
The FreeStyle Quick Compass toolbar is only a
quick access tool to the existing on compass
fuctionnalities accessible by a right click on
compass in its on perch position.
