Problem conclusion

  • THIS PROBLEM IS PERMANENT RESTRICTION IN
    CATIA
    Incident Diagnosis :
Problem updating a drawing from a big assembly
    Memory allocation failure
    Restriction Explanation :
There are several things which should correct these
kind of memory allocation faillure (2 gigabytes
    limit):
Check your operating system (see "CATIA
    Operating System Considerations" on program
    directory):
    - On Windows XP Professional since CXR14 Level it
is possible to run CATIA on 3 GigaBytes (System
must be tuned accordingly, with correct amount of
    physical memory + paging space)
    - On HP-UX since CXR14 Level it is possible to run
CATIA on 3 GigaBytes (same remark, maxdsiz
kernel parameter should be sized to accommodate
up to 3 GB of data)
    - On SUN platform, you just have to check the
Amount of Real memory and paging space to
    enable 3 Gigabytes usage
    - On AIX platform it is possible to increase
available memory up to (about) 2.25 GigaBytes
(explainations are available in program directory).
    - For your information, CATIA main applications
are validated for 64 bit on CXR16 level.
    .
Choose following options to save memory. With the
provided settings, the update of the provided
drawing (1 projection view and 1 section view) ran
up to 2174 megaBytes on XP.
    - When turning undo stack to 0 and "No automatic
backup" option ON, update memory peak decrease
to 2142 megaBytes (this is a R17 enhancement)
    - When turning cache option ON and
turning "occlusion culling" option ON for both views
(view + edit properties) update memory peak
    decrease to 1994 megaBytes
    - You can save some more memory when you want
thread generation : see "Thread: generates
threads" part in generative drafting documentation
to get information on this CXR17 enhancement
    which deals with "technological results".
In a word, it enables you to benefit thread
generation without loading in session the complete
    CATPart document.
    Thus we save additionnal memory.
    - Turn OFF the drafting option "Exact preview for
    view generation"
    .
