Problem conclusion

  • THIS PROBLEM IS PERMANENT RESTRICTION IN
    CATIA
    .
    Incident Diagnosis
In GSD, the Connect Checker Between Surfaces
analysis tool detect a gap in medium
discretization on an edge, and does not detect it
    after an edge fillet creation.
    .
    Restriction Explanation
As mention in CATIA V5 technical documentation,
    the Connect Checker Between Surfaces
tool performs a connection analysis thanks to a
    discretization technique. The user
has the choice between four discretization types
(from Light to Fine) which has
for effect to define "the number of spikes that
corresponds to the number of points
    used for the computation : 5, 15, 30 or 45 points".
    .
By default, discretization mode is set to "Medium",
ie. 30 points. If you reduce the
size of the connecting edge of two surfaces, and
you keep the same parameter of
discretization, the locations of the analysis spikes
differ, and a very short gap
    previously detected could be missed.
    .
See the attached pictures for visual explanation of
this phenomenon in the case of this IR :
    .
    1- EdgeFillet.1_Radius09_MediumDiscretization.jpg :
    -----------------------------------------------
Before fillet radius modification, the medium
    discretization spikes does not detect
the gap represented in blue (the discretization is
    not fine enough).
    .
    2- EdgeFillet.1_Radius1_MediumDiscretization.jpg :
    ----------------------------------------------
After fillet radius modification to 1.0 mm,
    connecting edge becomes smaller. The
medium discretization spikes detect the gap zone
(we have a spike in blue zone).
    .
The fact that Connect Checker results depend on
the size of the geometry checked is
normal and explained by its discretization
    technique.
    .
    By-Pass
On a given connection, to have the best analysis
    possible, try to change discretization
(Medium ---> Fine for example) so as to have
finest results when gaps happen on very short
    zone :
    .
    See EdgeFillet.1_Radius09_FineDiscretization.jpg :
    before fillet radius modification, the
"Fine" discretization mode with 45 points has spike
on small gap zone represented in blue :
    gap is detected.
    .
