Error description

  • Scenario :
    1. Open the supplied CATPart.
    2. Create a fillet between fillet.12 and
fillet.15. Selection order and direction arrows
    must be as shown.
    3. After clicking OK the shape created by the
Fillet is not as expected. We expected to get
another pocket creates just as previous ones
    (Fillet.13,14 and 15)
    4. Please note that Warning is given for Tangency
    design detection.
    4. The surface created is not good in quality.
    5. This problem comes everywhere in surface
designing when we have Tangency design. DS
recommendations in handling such cases are
    requested.

    .
    Incident Diagnosis :
Shape fillet cannot be created between tangent
    surfaces
    .
    Development Request Justification :
Since the top and bottom surfaces are tangent to
one another, the fillets that need to be generated
have pointed ends. To generate such fillets as
Shape Fillets in GSD is quite difficult because the
initial topology does not make it easy to predict
    such behavior.
In such cases it is recommended to first assemble
the various surfaces into one single surface and
then to fillet the resulting sharp edges (the edges
    help predict the pointed Fillets).
Also, since the free border of the skin must be
reached, it is recommended to first create an
EdgeFillet with a KeepEdge and then to round the
kept egde. Both Fillets will have pointed ends at the
    free border of the skin.
This has been illustrated in the part contained in
    the attached Recommendation.zip file.
The "Trimmed Geometry" set shows how to
generate the single surface with the sharp edges
by reducing to a minimum the number intersections
between tangent elements. Of course, it is
impossible to entirely eliminate this, because the
scenario is based on a tangent design, but it seems
that this is the best way to contain the problem. For
instance, the first approach was to trim the
surfaces with one another, but it is preferable to
split the surfaces first and assemble them
seperately (as can be seen in the "Trimmed
    Surfaces" set).
The "Pointed Fillets on Edges" set shows how to
generate the Fillets on the resulting surface.
