Abstract

The latest levels of IBM WebSphere Application Server can cause IBM Rational Team Concert (RTC) to become unresponsive. This affects users running RTC with the WebSphere Application Server where the jvm argument "maxDirectMemorySize " has been enabled.

Symptoms

RTC becomes unresponsive after applying the latest maintenance to WebSphere Application Server.


This issue has been reported when running with WebSphere Application Server 8.0 and 8.5.

Impact

Instances of RTC running on the WebSphere Application Server who have enabled the jvm parameter "-XX:MaxDirectMemorySize=<size".

Workaround

There is no workaround.

Recommended action

The solution will be to remove the jvm argument, "-XX:MaxDirectMemorySize=<size>" and set the WebSphere webcontainer custom property "com.ibm.ws.webcontainer.channelwritetype" value to "sync".

Note: In general it is recommended to use sync mode for customers leveraging SCM/Build functionality of RTC.
