Problem

Localization error, received when Daeja Viewer starts in the browser

Symptom

Localization error, received when Daeja Viewer starts in the browser.

Cause

Server side setup is Websphere running on an OS 390 environment. The Daeja version 4.1.1 was installed in a static area served by an IBMHttpserver. This server configuration was setup to convert ASCII files ending with a .txt extension to convert to EBCDIC format when downloaded. On windows this was downloaded to the viewone cache as EBCDIC file rather than ASCII format. Once this was reconfigured to prevent conversion, localization error was eliminated.

Diagnosing The Problem

The localization error can be reproduced by opening any image file with the Daeja Viewer with WAS 6.0 which is located on server which is OS 390.

Resolving The Problem

It is a server side fix : Since Websphere Application Server is running on OS 390, and Daeja is served by an IBM HTTP Server (IHS), the server is setup to convert ASCII files ending with .txt to EBCDIC format when downloaded. This was "corrupting" the locals.txt. Once the locals.txt is prevented from being converted from ASCII, this resolved localization errors.
