Error description
Dashed two dotted line pattern center is shown as solid line when it is of short length. . SCENARIO: 1) Start CATIA. 2) Open the provided CATDrawing. 3) Notice the four line types which are dotted line, dashed line, dashed dotted line and dashed two dotted line. All types lines are created as long and short line. 4) Select Print command and then select preview button. . OBSERVATION: Notice that long lines are correctly recognized as their type, however for short lines, Dashed two dotted line is not correctly shown. The Dashed two dotted line is shown as Solid line for short length. . EXPECTED RESULT: The pattern center of Dashed two dotted line should be dot or space and not dashed line. This way the a Dashed two dotted line of short length would not be shown as Solid line. .

Problem conclusion
THIS PROBLEM IS PERMANENT RESTRICTION IN CATIA. Additional Closure Information: INCIDENT DIAGNOSIS: Dashed two dotted line pattern center is shown as solid line when it is of short length. Line type 5 (Dashed two dotted line) is printed as solid if its length is less than 9mm. . RESTRICTION EXPLANATION: Line type 5 keeps the longer dash (which is 7mm) at the center while printing or showing preview. The minimum length required to properly visualize the line type is more than 9mm (two spaces of 1 mm each on either side of 7mm dash). This implementation is done according to ISO and other standards. As this implementation is old, any modification performed will cause regression for other users leading to restriction on it. . DOCUMENTATION REFERENCE: Under Infrastructure \ CATIA Infrastructure User Guide \ Reference Information \ About Printing and Capturing \ Print Settings \ Various Options \ Linetype specification, following line is mentioned: . But when you print the object, the pattern is applied according to the geometry's length. Therefore, if the geometry's length is lower than the pattern's size, the pattern is only partially applied. . ANSWER AND BYPASS: User can define its own line type using Tools / Standards. Line type 25 and 29 (ISO standards) both are defined to look similar to line type 5 however with a different print definition compared to line type 5. Print definition for line type 5 (which cannot be seen by end user as it is non-editable) is +7 -1 +1 -1 +1 -1 User can create line types with definition as follows: +1-1+1-1+7 (order changed from dash-dot-dot to dot-dot-dash), thus line is not printed as solid even at 3 mm or 3.5 -0.5 +0.5 -0.5 +0.5 -0.5, this reduces length for pattern elements by half keeping the proportion same. Various such solutions can be explored by user. .
