Error description

  • PD:Impossible to create 3D line with corner of a
    sketch.
    .
    SCENARIO:
    1. Start CATIA V5
    2. Open the supplied CATPart
    3. Try to create a line from the point (point 2) to
    the corner of sketch.1
    4. An error message is thrown saying: The selected
element is a non connex element.Input element
Sketch.1\Vertex has to be connex.Use another
element, or extract connex entity with NEAR
    operator.
    .
    RESULT:
Line is not created from point to the corner of the
    sketch .
    .

Problem conclusion

  • THIS PROBLEM IS PERMANENT RESTRICTION IN
    CATIA
    ncident Diagnosis:
The design leads to a Generic Naming ambiguity.
Two elements have the same name that identify
them in the system. The 2 points cannot be
    discriminated during selection.
    .
    Restriction Explanation:
2 subelements (endpoints of the line) coming from
the sketches have the same inner naming (the
same ID).This is generic naming ambiguity. It
happens because both these points share the same
topological neighbours (the semi-circle and the
line). So during selection both (the 2 subelements
with same ID) are selected at the same time.
The behavior is a restriction in CATIA. The
selection cannot differentiate the end points as both
the endpoints have a single generic name in this
    case.
    .
    By-Pass:
    Following are 2 By-Passes recommended :
    A.
Step1) Create a Point with type as 'On curve' at the
    vertex (corner) of the sketch.
Step2) Then create a line between this point and
point.2.This will solve the naming ambiguity and a
    line can be constructed
    .
    B.
Break the line in the sketch into 2 parts.with the
Break command. This will solve the naming
ambiguity and a line can be constructed.
    .
