Part: "Split" cannot be performed on given data. Confrontation of faces error is shown. THE PROBLEM WAS REPORTED ON V5R17SP03. THE PROBLEM IS REPRODUCIBLE ON CXR18 (07/30/2008) THE PROBLEM IS REPRODUCIBLE ON CXR19 (07/30/2008) . Scenario: 1. Launch CATIA. 2. Open the file: "Part2.CATPart". (Workbench: Part Design) 3. Right Click "Body.2" in the tree, and select "Define In Work Object" from context menu. >> "Body.2" is active. 4. Click "Split" icon. >> "Split Definition" dialog box is displayed. 5. Select "Surface.1" in the tree as "Splitting Element". 6. Select "OK" in the "Split Definition" dialog box. >> "Update Error: Confrontation between highlighted faces can not be solved" error message is displayed. >> "Solid.1" cannot be "sprit". >> This is the problem!! .

Problem conclusion
THIS PROBLEM IS PERMANENT RESTRICTION IN CATIA. . Explanation: During our analysis it is found that user is using Tangent Design surface for the Split operation. Surface.1 is found to be tangent to the Solid surface near to confrontation faces shown. It is recommended from DS that user should not use tangent surface for the split operation. Please refer to below Documentation reference for more details: Mechanical Design/ Part Design/ Surface based features: Creating Splits. 'Avoid using input elements that are tangent to each other since this may result in geometric instabilities in the tangency zone'. .
