Problem
Attempts to import a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet using Analyst's Notebook results in the error: Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. You must specify a valid instance of i2.Notebook.Internal.PLugInLib.Ci2VBHTranslator7. Parameter name: translator
Symptom
Cause
This error can occur if other IBM i2 products are installed on the system, which are a higher version than Analyst's Notebook. Some components are shared between Analyst's Notebook and other IBM i2 products, if incompatible product versions are used together errors can occur.
For example, installing IBM i2 iBase 8.9.5 on a system with IBM i2 Analyst's Notebook 8.9.1 already installed can cause the error message listed above.
Diagnosing The Problem
To check the version of components Analyst's Notebook is using, click on the Help menu and select 'About Analyst's Notebook 8'.
When the information window appears, click on the Copy button and paste the results into a text editor (e.g. Notepad).
Check for version differences in the listed components. For example:
i2 Analyst's Notebook Application C:\Program Files\i2 Analyst's Notebook 8\ANB.exe v8.9.1.3485
i2 Link Data Control v7 C:\Program Files\Common Files\i2 Shared\i2 Analyst's Notebook 7\Components\linkdata.ocx v8.9.5.1053
Resolving The Problem
Ensure that all IBM i2 applications on the system are at the same version.
