Error description

  • FTA / THE TOLERANCE VALUES DEFINED FOR A
    DIMENSION STYLE FORMAT ARE OVERWRITTEN
    WHEN CHANGING THE STYLE
    .
    0. Launch CATIA in admin mode.
    .
    1. Modify a default dimension style within a
    drafting standard file.
    .
    2. Select Tools > Standards> In the Standard
Definition window, and then select Tolerance >
Main Value > Format, Lower Numerical Value, and
    Upper Numerical Value.
    .
    3. Create a custom dimension style within the
drafting standard file. While the Standard Definition
window is still open, select the dimension style, and
click on the ?Create style? button to open the
Create style window. In this newly opened window,
give the new style a name and ensure that it is
duplicated from the default dimension style.
    .
    4. Save these changes by clicking on the ?Save As
New? button in the Standard Definition window. and
    rename this new .XML file.
    .
    5. If necessary move the recently saved drafting
standard file to the proper directory where CATIA
V5 is instructed to find the drafting standard XML
    files.
    .
    6. For a given part, activate the FTA Workbench
and add Annotation Set.1. Then, make sure that
the tolerance standards for Annotation Set.1 are
    set to ASME_3D_new.
    .
    7. Add dimensions to the part while in the FTA
Workbench. Either the Dimension or the Tolerance
Advisor tool may be used to create these
annotations. Note: make sure the numerical format
for these dimensions are set to NUM.DINC in the
    Numerical Properties toolbar.
    .
    8) Use the Style toolbar to apply a different style to
the recently created dimensions. Note: ensure that
the numerical format for these dimensions is still
set to NUM.DINC in the Numerical Properties
    toolbar.
    .
    RESULTS OBTAINED:
After applying styles to an existing dimension, the
tolerance values are changed to something other
than what was defined in the drafting standard.
    .
    EXPECTED RESULTS:
    .
When changing the dimension style for an existing
dimension, the displayed tolerance values should
reflect the values defined for this new dimension
style. For example, if the tolerance values for a
dimension style currently being applied are .03,
and the tolerance values for the new dimension
style are .010, then when this other dimension

    with tolerance values of .010.
    .
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
When reviewing the tolerance values in the
Properties window, the two place tolerance
standard value (i.e. .03) has been converted
to .00118 (≈.03/25.4), and the three place
tolerance standard value (i.e. .010) has been
    converted to .000394 (≈.010/25.4). Note:

Problem conclusion

  • THIS PROBLEM WILL BE FIXED ON CATIA VERSION
    5R20 GA LEVEL.
NOTE THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL ALSO BE FIXED
    ON V5R19SP01.
    INCIDENT DIAGNOSIS:
    .
FTA / THE TOLERANCE VALUES DEFINED FOR A
    DIMENSION STYLE FORMAT ARE OVERWRITTEN
    WHEN CHANGING THE STYLE.
    .
    CORRECTION EXPLANATION:
    .
The correction has been done for the Standards
editor for the Tolerance > Upper/Lower Numerical
    Values.
    .
    Now the behavior is correct.
The behavior can be described well by the avi file.
So to get the correct results.
    Please follow the following steps:
    1. Go to Tools/ Options/General/Parameters and
    measure tool/ Units/
Change the Unit of length to "Inch".
    2. In Tools/ Standard/Drafting /Style
    : Length distance Dimension/ :
Update the : Tolerance > Main Value > Lower
Numerical Value, and Upper Numerical Value.
    .
Please note that the "in" is being specified now.
Save the changes made to the New XML file.
    .
Please see the attached avi file.
    .
    BYPASS:
To get the correct results use the values in "mm"
    or in "degrees".
    .
