Error description
Splitting of Shell or Stiffeners SCENARIO: 1. Shell plate is created in SDD. 2. Split (break) shell plate with a plane, say Long plane (LONG.-10) . CONCERN: One side of plate is split normal to molded surface (Not Expected) Other side of plate is split as per splitting plane (Expected Behavior) . EXPECTED BEHAVIOR: Both the plate should be split as per expected behavior (shown in attached PPT slide No. 7 (added by BZO)) . .

THIS MODIFICATION WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE DOCUMENTATION DELIVERED WITH CATIA VERSION 5 RELEASE 19 GA LEVEL. SDD Advanced Tasks Thickness Compensation MODIFICATION: CurrentThicknessCompensationBehavior Thickness compensation for Plates The thickness compensation for Plates is the operation that consists into trimming the original solid representing the Plate to fit in position. In other words, it is to obtain the final physical representation of the Plate. This doesn't cover the Manufacturing Representation of the Plate. Only Remove mode is supported for Plate limits. The different modes for the nibbling are the following: Nb. All the drawings are side views. Short Point : Ensure contact without clash Long Point : Ensure full contact (might lead to clash) Remove : Boolean Operation without Extrapolation 1. Case 1: no intersection between Operated and Operating: no operation, the operated plate is not changed. 2. Case 2: clash but no full clash 3. Case 3: Full clash 4. Case 4: Contact without clash (Contact can be a point/curve/surface) MetalToMetal : Extrapolation to ensure full clash then Boolean Operation (remove) At Neutral Fiber : Extrapolation to ensure contact (up to the Neutral Fiber) In our scenario, the Remove mode is performed on both split Plates P1 and P2. The split Plate P2 is in full clash with the Splitting plane limit and therefore nibbled by the plane as per Case 3. The split Plate P1 is not in clash with the limit but only in edge contact (case 4 above). As P2 is not extrapolated before the nibbling, the result is as seen below: NOTE: I have attached CurrentThicknessCompensationBehavior.doc file, and information about it will be documented in Documentation. .
