Standard Reports (e.g. Reconcile between accounts/opening balances) intermittently freeze when sending to PDF, triggered by setting "Temporary objects location"

Troubleshooting


Problem

User runs a standard report. The report appears OK in the default format (HTML). User then changes the formatting to PDF. The report seems to hang (freeze).

Symptom

In theory the problem could affect any report. However, it seems to particularly affect the report 'Reconcile between accounts/opening balances'.

The symtpoms may vary depending on environment (for example the version of Adobe Reader installed on the client device). In one real-life customer example, the report seemed to get 'stuck' part-way through opening the file (and it never finished):
