Information Server Istool import/export command fails with ERROR: Unknown option: -af on IS 8.5, 8.1 or 8.0

Troubleshooting


Problem

When running Information Server 8.5, 8.1 or 8.0 you will see an error if -af or -authfile option is used on Istool.

Symptom

When the following command is run:

$ ./istool export -domain retltest:9080 -af /home/dsadm/.authfile -ar "/Meijer_work/Ascential/Work/TEST.isx" -ds '-incdep -incexec "retltest/FCdm01/Jobs/MMC_GE_ALLIANCE/PrescreenProcess/jcdmcc_40100_Prescreen_Allfile_Fmt.pjb"'

the following error is received:

WARNING: JVM is running with hard ulimit not set to unlimited, out of memory errors may occur
If an out of memory error occurs try running "chuser data_hard=-1 username" as root before running java

If an out of memory error occurs try running "chuser data_hard=-1 username" as root before running java

ERROR: Unknown option: -af

Cause

-af or -authfile options were first introduced on the Information Server 8.7 release. Earlier releases won't have this option available.

Environment

This issue will occur on IS 8.5, 8.1 or 8.0.

Resolving The Problem

This feature was first introduced on the Information Server 8.7 release and unfortunately there is no plan to back port it to older releases.
