Error description

  • GSD: EXTRAPOLATE: EXTRAPOLATION GIVES
ERROR FOR A PARTICULAR LIMIT AND BEYOND.
    .
    Scenario:
    1. Load the CATPart in GSD
    2. Click on extrapolate icon
    3. Select the vertex and then the curve
    4.Choose curvature continuity
    5. Insert the value as 17mm
    6. Click OK
    .
    OBSERVATION:
We get an error message stating that extrapolation
cannot be created and a smaller value to be
    chosen.
    .
    EXPECTED RESULT:
There should be no error message and the
    extrapolation should be created.
    .
    .

    ==========*===========*==========
THIS PROBLEM IS PERMANENT RESTRICTION IN
    CATIA
    .
    Diagnosis:
The extrapolation for a specific curve failed for
    17mm
    .
    Restriction Explanation:
This curve is made of two geometries: one a plane
and an other one on a fillet. As we refer to the
original CATPart that has been sent. We can
observe that this is the extract of an edge
bordering two faces of a solid: you could see
clearly that one of this face is the result of a fillet
and the other one a plane. This is the reason why
the extrapolation failed for 17mm because the two
geometries extrapolate together till a defined
parameter(16 mm). After this, the geometry
shapes diverge and no more merge is possible
between the two geometries, hence too long
extrapolation is not possible for this specific curve
    .
    By-Pass
The curve have two supports: a fillet surface and a
plane. Make an extrapolation of the fillet surface of
20mm and intersect it with the plane. And then to
get the result of extrapolation of 17mm, build the
plane normal to the extract curve you want to
extrapolate, make an offset of this plane of 17mm
and split the intersection by this offset
    .
