Error description

  • PART: DATA SIZE INCREASES SIGNIFICANTLY
    EVEN THOUGH CATDUA IS APPLIED AND ONLY A
    SMALL PART OF SKETCH IS MODIFIED
    .
    SCENARIO:
    1) Launch CATIA session and open model file
    SAMPLE.CATPart.
    = Original file size is 223MB.
    2) Select File-Desk and select CATDUAV5 in
    contextual menu of model name and set check
    mark to Clean and click Run.
    3) Select File-SaveAs and perform it.
    = The file size becomes 161MB.
    4) Double click at sketch of Sketch-Lwr shear tie
    web-stgr-FS and sketcher window is launched.
    5) Double click at value of constraint Offset.9418
    and change value from 1 inch to 0.9 inch and click
    OK.
    6) Exit sketcher and perform File-SaveAs. Please
    ignore warning message appears.
    .
    OBSERVATION:
    The File size of the saved file changes to 234MB.
    By performing CATDUA clean, 223 MB file size of
    original model file size decreases to 161 MB. After
    that, by modifying sketch of the model file, about
    70 MB file size is added to decreased file size (161
    MB) and file size becomes to be 234 MB.
    1- Before CATDUA: 223MB
    2- After CATDUA: 161MB
    3- After modifying sketch: 234MB

  • Incident Diagnosis:
    As explained in the documentation, the goal of
    FGM_1 rule is to optimize the size of the model.
    After operation, FGM_1 can be used to
    unextrapolate oversized extrapolations.
    The cleaning of those oversized extrapolations can
    have an important impact on the performances (as
    all the model has to be scan for internal reason).
    That is why this operation is only done on demand
    in CATDUA. After removing of unnecessary
    geometric data, the Part is the same but smaller.
    .
    Correct Application:
    In the scenario, a modification is done on the
    model after clean. This modification (a sketch)
    leads to an update of the model. In this precise
    case, some extrapolations have been re-done.
    They cannot be avoided during the update.
    As explained in the documentation, FGM_1 will
    detect again something to clean after this update,
    even if the initial model was cleaned. This explain
    the increase in data size after modification in the
    sketch.
