Error description

  • PART : MEASURE INTERTIA : MEASURE OF 2D
    INERTIA IS NOT CORRECT.
    .
    Scenario:
    1.Open the CATPart
    2. Perform the 2D inertia measure on the L section
    .
    OBSERVATION:
The result of measure of moment of area about the
    centroidal axis is not correct.
    .
    EXPECTED RESULT:
The result of moment of area about the centroidal
    axis should be correct.

    Incident Diagnosis
Measure inertia for 2D around the centroidal axes
system represents the 2D inertia tensor around the
    principal axes system.
    .
    Development request justification
For 2 D inertia measurements, the present
algorithm returns the 2D inertia for an object
around the principal axes system only. Hence the
stress tensor represents the 2D moment of inertia
around the principal axes system, which are
represented in red and green. The calculation and
representation of 2D inertia around the centroidal
axes needs a total changeover of the present 2D
inertia tensor measurement. Thus, this impacting
correction needs to be studied deeply before
implementing. Hence this needs to be worked on
an enhancement basis for a future release with
customer's participation to define clearly the scope
    of the enhancement.
    .
    Answer and By-pass
In order to calculate the 2D inertia about the
centroidal axes system please perform the
    following steps.
    1. Click on measure inertia and select the icon for
    surface/volumic item
    2. Select the 2D face/surface of which the 2D
    intertia needs to be measured
    3. The result is obtained which contains the surfacic
moment of inertia about the centroidal axes.
    4. In order to get the 2D moment of areas, divide
the surfacic moment of inertia by the surfacic
    density.
