Error description

  • GSD: JOIN: ERROR WITH SELF INTERSECTING
    FACES
    .
    SCENARIO:
    1) Start CATIA.
    2) Open
    70369.001.866_070205164213_Three_Corner_Fillet
    _Join_Error.CATPart.
= The surfaces within the part have been color
    coded for this scenario.
= There are two geometrical sets, each holding
different geometry which both represents the
    problem.
    3) Using surfaces from GS - Overlap issue 1:
    Join - Pink + Green + Yellow = Error
    Join - Purple + Pink + Green + Yellow = OK
    Join - Yellow + Blue = Error
    4) Using surfaces from GS Overlap issue 2
    Join - Pink + Green = OK
    Join - Pink + Green + Purple = Error
    Join - Pink + Green + Purple + Yellow = OK
    Join - Purple + Blue = Error.
    .
    OBSERVATION:
Error is displayed and Join is not possible:
"Join operation aborted on invalid elements.
Input elements surface.1 has several self-
    intersecting edges.
Modify these inputs or the elements used to
    generate them".
    .

Problem conclusion

  • THIS PROBLEM IS PERMANENT RESTRICTION IN
    CATIA
    .
    Incident Diagnosis:
The problem is related to the fact that the surfaces
contain confused edges. Due to this the body is not
    valid.
    .
    Restriction Explanation:
Overlap issue 1 - Yellow has 2 confused edges,
which is invalid. When a body is invalid, the
behaviour of the operator is random.
Similar is the case with Overlap issue 2.
    .
    By-Pass:
Overlap issue 1 (similarly 2) : Eliminate the smallest
    edge of Yellow (similarly Purple).
    (Refer attached data)
    .
