Cast Iron Staging database usage

Question & Answer

Question

What kind of data can be stored in the staging database hosted on a Cast Iron appliance? Can I use the staging database like other commercial databases for high volume data and BLOB data manipulation?

Answer

For staging database general usage information, refer to the product documentation.

The usage of the staging database, in addition to Cast Iron internal Data Quality activities usage, is not for complex & high volume data storage on the Cast Iron appliance. Thorough testing for the size limitation has not been performed. WMC could be a general way to use the staging database by inserting data types like int & char.

Since BLOB/CLOB data like comma-separated value(CSV) file is not provided in the staging database column data type, Get File FTP activity can be used to read the file content into binary64 stream and map it to the table in staging database via database activities. However minimum volume storage is still suggested and the staging database is not suggested as part of production data persistence solution.
