Error description

  • Environment: HATS V6 customer running WAS V6 on z/OS.
On some of the customer's machines, when the bootstrap address
port and orb listener address ports are set to something besides
the default value of 2809, attempting to invoke the HATS
Administrative Console from a browser returns a completely blank
browser screen. Setting the bootstrap and orb listener address
ports to 2809 resolves the problem. On some other systems in
the customer's environment, HATS Administrative Console works
well regardless of what port is used as the bootstrap and
orb listener address port in WAS.
Other symptoms are CORBA.COMM_FAILURE errors in WAS, and in HATS
traces, when the ports are set to something besides 2809, this
    message may be seen:
    ConnectorException, hostName=SMTSYS01.dtcc.com, port=2809,
ADMC0017E: Could not create an RMI connector to connect to host
    SMTSYS01.dtcc.com at port 2809

Local fix

  • Change WAS BOOTSTRAP_ADDRESS port value and ORB_LISTENER_ADDRESS
port values to 2809 (both are same in z/OS environment).

    * the RMI bootstrap address of the HATS *
    * server differs from the default value of *
    * 2809. This issue is specific to the z/OS *
    *                 platform.                                    *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The HATS Administrative Console *
    * browser page appears completely blank *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
The HATS Administrative Console logic assumed that port 2809
should always be the default value for the RMI bootstrap
address. It did not use the adminPortNum value in the
runtime.properties file to set the default port value. When the
HATS Administrative Console interface was initializing, it
always tried to contact port 2809 first. If port
2809 was unreachable or did not respond, then the HATS
Administrative Console might show a blank panel instead of the
    Admin interface.

Problem conclusion

  • The HATS Administrative Console logic will use the value
    specified for adminPortNum in the
    runtime.properties or runtime-debug.properties file to
determine the default RMI bootstrap address port value to use
    when initializing.
This fix will be available in HATS 6.0.10, 7.0.0.6, 7.1.0.4,
    and 7.5.0.2.
